Degree Programs: Course Outcomes

The educational objectives of each of our two degree programs are achieved as students fulfill the learning outcomes of each course.

Our "Foundation" courses are common to both degree programs and the educational objective is to have the student achieve an understanding of psychological and scientific approaches to the religious experience. The Foundation courses (common to both our programs) consist of:: A New Myth of God: The Religious Function of the Psyche; Mythic Stories in Depth Psychology; Alchemy & Psychotherapy; Spiritual Psychology; Psi Research; Physics of the Soul; Outer & Inner Creativity; Buddhist Psychology & Methods of Healing; Intuition in Business; and Self-Regulation: The Foundation of Human Potential.

At the conclusion of the foundation courses:

. The student will be able to describe the basic concepts and dynamics of Western personality theories;
. The student will be able to describe the depth psychological approach to religious experience;
. The student will be able to list and discuss the models of human personality and cosmology as found in eastern and western spiritual traditions;
. The student will be able to describe what actual scientific psi research has been conducted;
. The student will be able to discuss in writing quantum non-locality and be conversant with the implication of new discoveries in quantum physics in the field of human consciousness;
. The student will be able to describe the principles and theories of archetypal symbolism as found in wisdom tales and traditions;
. The student will be able to write coherently about human consciousness from the different perspectives of psychology, science and mysticism.

The two degree programs then diverge. The remaining courses in Consciousness Studies are organized around the educational objective of giving the student a command of the primary wisdom traditions as they relate to human consciousness. They will also have completed 20 sessions of modern medical guided imagery dialogue that will enable students to use imagery dialogue to enhance communication with their own inner resources. At the conclusion of the Consciousness Studies Degree program:

. The student will have a comprehensive ability to reference the Bible, Kabbalah, the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita, Buddhism and classical philosophy and draw from each principles related to the nature of human consciousness.
. The student will be able to describe the universality of convergent ideas in world religions.
. The student will be able to describe how everyday activities serve as spiritual opportunities.
. The student will be able to discuss in writing the breadth of mind/body connections in physical health care and psychological well-being.
. The student will be able to approach everyday human problems from the perspective of wisdom traditions and be better able to devise creative written solutions to problems consistent with universal wisdom principles.

The Spinal column is the "rod of Brahma", and it is this which is symbolized by the bamboo rod carried by ascetics and the seven knotted wand of the Yogi. The spinal column and nervous system of man is a manifestation of the "world tree" of universal life referenced in a great many wisdom traditions and sharing the principles and archetypes of all creation.
